American Legion Auxiliary
Department of Texas
Past President’s Parley
Plan of Work
2007 - 2008

The activities of the Past President’s Parley Committee are designed specifically to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of our past leaders who train and encourage our up-and-coming leaders. We also lend a particular focus on recognizing the contributions of our female veterans.

Recognizing Women Veterans Look for avenues of identifying women veterans in the local communities and help them whenever possible. Identify organizations and agencies that provide advocacy on behalf of female veterans. Information resources can be obtained through the American Legion service officers to assure women veterans are receiving appropriate entitlements. We need to promote state of the art women’s clinics/wellness programs at VA Hospital. Units can adopt women veterans who are residents in long-term care.

HONORING ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE WOMEN AND WOMEN VETERAN Recognize the contribution and sacrifice of women who are serving in today’s armed forces. Contact these women that are in your community and encourage them to write a narrative on “Why it is Important to me that I Serve My Country.

Recognizing Outstanding Unit Members: Unit members should nominate individuals they feel make the most significant contribution to achieving unit goals and purposes. Have several members nominated within the unit and then select one member to be recommended for the department recognition.

Medical Scholarships: Units should assist deserving students who are pursing an education in the medical field. Fundraising efforts can be done at the Unit level to provide scholarship benefits to these individuals. Develop resources to provide financial aid information for these individuals. Encourage individuals who are pursing their education in the medical field to submit a scholarship application at the Department level. An application is in the plans of work or can be obtained at the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Texas website.

Development of New Parleys and Enhancing Involvement: Past President Parley’s provide support and encouragement for current officers and chairmen. Units can use the Past Presidents Parley as a resource for a mentor/support system where current officers a nd chairman have a more experienced member to draw on for information that is needed.

Annual Report: An annual report is not required.
