2007 - 2008

Goal: For God and Country”---Serve as a benchmark to our members in reinforcing the significance of this statement in our Preamble as the basis for all we do.

. Tactics:

1. Utilize National publications, including the “Reflections” page in the National magazine to add inspiration to your meetings

2. Promote the use of Grace Cards at appropriate functions (See Resources)

3. Submit Prayers for inclusion in a “Book of Prayers” to be presented to Department President Charlie Dew. These prayers will be copied and sent to National for the book for National President Jan Pulvermacher-Ryan. These can be emailed to me at laureyo@aol.com

B. Goal: Learn and encourage tolerance for the beliefs of others and embrace the diversity of religious freedom.

Tactics:
1. Promote activities designed to build tolerance through learning and increased understanding of the beliefs and traditions of other faiths.
2. Set a positive example in your own words and actions
3. Try to use a variety of religious traditions in ceremonies.

C. Goal: Be accessible to all unit members, as a source of spiritual and emotional support

Tactics:
1. Provide comfort and support to members and their families during difficult times
2. Use the prayer chain by email or telephone (you may send the name of anyone needing prayer and I will send it to the National Prayer chain.

D. Goal: Contribute to the success of all The American Legion Family Programs and activities.

Tactics:
1. Be prepared to offer prayer at any function if called on
2. Pay tribute to our veterans.
3. Jointly participate in observances of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, The American Legion Birthday, and Four Chaplain’s service and other special occasions
4. Help family members of deployed service personal through the Family Support Network (familysupport@legion.org or 800-504-4098)

Programs and Activities
· Make a Difference Day:: Celebrate “neighbors helping neighbors” (www.usaweekend.com/diffday or 800-416-3824)
· The Healing Field: Unite others to honor, heal and remember through this national movement (www.healingfield.org or 866-375-3524
· Various Community Initiatives: Encourage your members and others to reach out to your community and organizations needing assistance.
